1. As the land covered by that site had been seriously contaminated by various chemical substances, including dichloroethane and ammonia, some of that land was decontaminated in 1995.

It is important for the European Commission to find the means to grant urgent aid, and to work in close collaboration with the Spanish government and the Andalusian regional government in order to reprogramme the structural and cohesion funds to support the plan being prepared to decontaminate, restore and strengthen environmental protection in the area around Doñana.

Es ist äußerst wichtig, daß die Europäische Kommission schnell hilft und daß sie eng mit der spanischen Regierung und der andalusischen Regionalregierung zusammenarbeitet, um so den Struktur- und Kohäsionsfonds für den in Vorbereitung befindlichen Plan zur Entlastung und Sanierung der Umwelt und zur Verbesserung des Umweltschutzes im Doñana-Nationalpark neu auszurichten.
